Good news– many organizations qualify for Red Cross Mental health grants

Uncovering the Hidden Impact of Trauma on Mental Health

Startling statistics reveal that 48% - 98% of individuals grappling with mental health challenges have experienced at least one traumatic event.

Empowering Trauma-Informed Organizations

It's been a challenging era marked by the COVID-19 pandemic, wildfires, floods, and rising cost of living. One of our clients recognized the need to support the mental health of their team.  Using a Mental Health Grant, they sought a sustainable approach beyond the superficial gesture of pizza nights, gift cards, and awkwardly not knowing what to say when someone was grieving. They wanted to be Trauma-informed but didn’t know where to start. Sound familiar?

Mapping a Journey to Trauma-Informed Care, Practice, and Leadership

Trauma-informed organizations recognize trauma's profound and far-reaching effects on their staff, clients, and families. Together, we embarked on a journey toward Trauma-Informed Leadership, the overarching framework that encompasses creating psychologically safe and trauma-informed systems, processes, and individuals. At its core, Trauma-Informed Leadership is built on five fundamental principles:

  1. Promoting Awareness

  2. Shifting Attitudes

  3. Fostering Safety

  4. Providing Choice

  5. Highlighting Strengths

Through a year-long journey that included one-on-one leadership support and training for over 100 staff members, the organization equipped itself with a common language to support one another and positively impact the mental health of the entire team.

Our Pathway to Transformation:

  • Commitment to Trauma-Informed Everything: A steadfast commitment to trauma-informed practices at all levels.

  • Leadership Learning: In-depth training in Trauma-Informed Leadership.

  • Organizational Implementation: Developing a comprehensive plan to introduce and sustain trauma-informed approaches.

  • Assessing Current Policies and Procedures: An honest evaluation of existing policies and procedures to identify areas of alignment and potential hindrances to trauma-informed approaches.

  • Building Collaborative Partnerships: Forging connections between staff, clients, and the community.

From Gift Cards to True Support

This organization shifted from offering superficial gestures like gift cards and pizza parties to ease the suffering of their staff to a deep sense of knowing that they are doing everything within their power to support their team. The results? HR wasn’t so busy in endless grievance investigation meetings; they got to refocus on advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Shifting from a Culture of Complaining
